iPhone 6 Plus screen freezes after iOS 9.3.1 update

I'm usually pretty lucky with iOS updates, but as the thread title states, straight after the recent 9.3.1 upgrade on my iPhone 6 Plus, the touchscreen now freezes at random times. I'm a medium to heavy user and this annoying screen freeze happens at least twice a day, sometimes as much as 7 or 8 times with only the hard buttons (home, power, volume) that still function. This never happened before the update, and the only way out is the soft reset (home+power buttons) option. This is not just localised to a couple of apps, but seems to be anything touchscreen related.

This is becoming a real pain in the neck, especially when writing an email or text message with no way to save what is already written using copy and paste, as I obviously need the touchscreen to do so. Is anybody else facing the same issue after the iOS 9.3.1 upgrade, and are there any possible fixes to this, although I strongly suspect it's a software issue that only Apple can sort out with an update fix?

Thanks.

The fault is a HARDWARE fault. This was acknowledged to me by Apple reps at the Apple Genius bar in Manchester England. Apple have recognised the problem in some of the early handsets and will exchange them. If the handset is out of warranty there is a fee for the exchange - which I think is completely unfair - but there we are. Again, there was a flaw with SOME of these handsets that causes the touch screen to become unresponsive and which will degenerate with time. There is no fix other than to exchange the handset.

I can't accept this.

If it were a hardware fault how could locking and unlocking the software, unfreeze it?

If it were a hardware fault how could updating the software temporarily fix it for a few days?

If my hardware really were at fault, and deteriorating, surely after all these months of daily problems it would be highly unlikely to work for any amount of consecutive days?

I can only guess your problem was different to mine, possibly "touch disease", which mine definitely is not.

The problem is intermittent, it comes and goes, it's due to the silicone wafer that contains the touchscreen chips losing contact with the motherboard, that's why in some cases bending the phone or tapping the rear cover of the phone can temporarily rectify the problem. I was given a newer, replacement 6 plus and the problem no longer exists for me. If it was a software issue, then the replacement phone should be suffering the same problem. An IOS glitch wouldn't affect some iPhone 6 plus's and not others.

Yes, as i thought, your iphone had the "touch disease", this thread is not about the touch disease, this thread is about an unrelated issue which began happening after a specific update and just happens to have a similar symptom.

Apple TOLD you what was wrong with your phone, and were more than likely correct. Unfortunately its irrelevant to me and most people in this thread.

And yes, an update can effect phones differently. Many factors can make 2 iphones different. Surely you have read of "some" users experiencing battery issues or quiet sound etc. Most of the software updates even state "fixed issue some users were experiencing".

Thank's for the reply @Majorrity, but holding down the "Home" button doesn't bring up the power option, it activates Siri. Not sure what you meant by "then hold your "hold" button. I have cleared the cache on a few occasions now by the soft reset (pressing & holding the Home & Power buttons does this I believe) and via "Settings" but has made no difference. Even still, I've never had this problem until I did the "over the air" (on the phone, not via PC) to iOS 9.3.1.

Thanks anyway.

Steve, it is not happening on my end nor reported as common here.

You posted that you tried a forced restart but try it again please. Hold down the Home and Wake/Sleep buttons at the same time for about 15-20 seconds until the Apple logo appears. You will not lose anything.

If that does not help then try a system restore.

First backup your device using iTunes. Then import your photos to your computer and copy all important data. Try restoring from backup first and testing it. If it does not help, you may have to restore as New and reconfigure from scratch as the backup could be corrupted. For this reason it is important to have your photos and data saved separately from the backup.

I got my 6s+ three weeks ago after using Android for the past 8 years. When I powered it on for the first time, I signed in and set everything up. A couple of days later I got the update notification, so I updated. I got the same screen freezing issues a day later, but my wife's 6s was fine. I did a factory reset and it's been running fine since.

It will be interesting to see what they say. Not tried a hard reset yet, but will give it a shot and report back as well. In regards to @elcpu's response, I have tried the soft reset (force restart) on several occasions as mentioned in my first post, which has made no difference whatsoever. It may not be a wide spread problem, but obviously there is a multiple user issue as this thread is starting to grow with users reporting the same issue with others who may not have reported it yet as iOS 9.3.1 was only released a couple of weeks ago. As mentioned, I will try the hard reset so I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Thanks for everybody else's replys and input on this subject as well.
